My 2012 Video Production Internship with Jumpstart Video

In the year 2012, my time as a student at Kent State University was coming to an end. I was soon to graduate with a degree in Electronic Media Productions and I was excited to start my career. But…I needed an internship first in order to officially graduate. That is where my journey with Jumpstart Video began!

Immediately after the spring semester, I started my internship at Jumpstart Video Production. Truth be told, I just expected to continue learning about things like camera work and video editing. I was extremely wrong because I learned a ton about the business side of video. When I say business, I mean BUSINESS! From client relations, networking, selling, and much more. So many countless things that I would never have thought about wanting to learn. But the number one thing that I learned was…video production for those with smaller budgets. Not everyone has a million dollars to spend on video, but they have a million reasons why they need video.

My clients were mainly startups, non-profits, and “Ma & Pops’s.” Their BIGGEST priority (and understandably so) was their day-to-day operations. Having a video, let alone videos, seemed like an impossible dream for many of them, due to not having Hollywood dollars and the time it takes to put a video together. Here’s the secret…Creativity is FREE! It costs $0 to use your imagination! Once you realize that, everything will start coming together for those businesses/organizations, to create the best video possible & help them grow their message.

During my internship, I was able to put everything that I learned together and create the path to where I am today. I am a creator, producer, editor, and host of a YouTube Podcast for a very well-known Cleveland staple. I wear multiple hats for the show, and the media multitasking was learned behavior from my internship days. Being able to plan each episode with my client, especially on a smaller budget, has its moments, but we have made GREAT work together. I take a lot of pride in my video projects and I’m very thankful for my past experiences. No pun intended, but my internship was truly a “JumpStart” to my career.
